Newton Theatre Kids

Newton Theatre Kids is an after school program for students in grades 2-5. Our program invites participants to cultivate a love of theatre through acting, singing, dancing, and scenery making. Each session culminates in a family-friendly performance.

OUR PHILOSOPHY - PLEASE READ

Our philosophy at Newton Theatre Kids is that the most joy comes from putting on a play together. Our motto is: it is not how big your part is that is important, it is what you do with your part. In general, we divide parts up by grades, and try to do it as fairly as possible.

Parents, thanks in advance for partnering with us on our philosophy that the creating and putting on a play as an ensemble is the real goal and is incredibly rewarding.

Get ready to rock 'n' roll back to the 1950s in this fun-filled, high-energy kids' production of Bye Bye Birdie! When teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie is drafted into the army, chaos breaks out in small-town America. With catchy tunes and boppin' dances, this musical comedy is packed with laughs, love, and lots of hip-swinging fun.

A few summers ago, one of our amazing students, Vivvy, and their mom went to Mason City, Iowa to visit the childhood town of Meredith Wilson. Meredith Wilson wrote Music Man, which was the Fall 2022 Newton Theatre Kids show! Mason City provided the inspiration for River City.

What is Newton Theatre Kids?

Newton Theatre Kids is an exciting opportunity for children in grades 2-5 to explore and cultivate a love of theater. Our highly experienced staff provides a nurturing environment in which kids can feel comfortable and confident while expressing themselves through acting, singing, dancing, and scenery-making. At the end of each session, families are invited to watch their children perform a fully staged and costumed production specifically tailored to the program. Whether your child dreams of being a thespian or simply wants to try something new, Newton Theatre Kids has a place for them.

This is a really wonderful program whether in-person or virtual. My 9- and 12-year-old daughters have both enjoyed and benefitted immensely from this program.
